"Last week I had the stragest dream, where everything was exactly how it seemed"

After a conversation with Elyse last night, I'm left doubting my sanity. So I could be mad but I also could be coming down with something else of the more flu like variety. Mr Biggs is ill *collective awwwww* and after hearing about his fever induced dream of being thrown out of a plane, last night I had a rather strange dream that was played out in real time and was shocking to say the least. I won't go into detail but it has made me doubt my sanity a bit more.

I'm well aware that this entry will make no sense to anyone reading it and that includes those who know me well. Perhaps I'm going just as crazy as any microsoft product that I own.

What have you learnt today?

Today I have learnt:

  • All Children are stupid
  • I have the mental capacity of a 6 year old
If both cases are true, then how did I get here?.

The Essex Language

Scott, Mish and Kwan have a new hobby: mocking my accent.

Personally, i don't think i have an Essex accent (well not like Chantelle anyway) you could say it was a Kent one...but i don't think i have one that would give any indication to a stranger where i was from. Feel free to disagree with me Bozz, you seem to like insulting me recently as well.

So back to the story... apparently i can't say:

  • Sauce
  • Fork
  • Knife
  • Spoon

without much hilarity ensuing on the boys part. This usually happens on the way back from college dining but also last night when we ordered take out. Before you say anything, I know that I'm going to turn into a beached whale before soon, but that's not my fault, the fact that i am living with essentially 4 boys who can't cook doesn't help me.

I'm currently listening to my vast iTunes collection on random and it's causing much confusion to the people I'm talking to on msn messenger as it really is random: No Doubt, Silverstein, Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, Puretone, Jamie Cullum and Enya. What can i say, I'm a random person.

So does Essex have it's own language? I'm not sure, but sometimes i think so.

Happy Birthday to the Kwankster!

Yesterday was Kwan's 19th birthday and in true Stockton style, we went to Peking Garden for Chinese and then on to the Rocket for drinks. That's the third Saturday running that I've been to Peking Garden, and I must say I've had something different every time, I'm just working my way through the safe foods on the menu. Being all you can eat for £8.99, everyone does normally order quite a bit of food, but no one has ever ordered as much as Ryan. Dr Dias hasn't eaten properly since his return to uni, what with exams, so instead of the typical 2 starters and 2 main dishes that normal people have, the Doctor had 3 starters and 5 main dishes with rice and chips on the side. The surprising thing was that he actually ate it all, although I don't think it agreed with him really as can be seen by this picture:

After the eating was done, the lights were dimmed and a cake mysteriously appeared on our table with the restaurant singing that magical birthday song to Kwan, who was slightly embarrassed at the fact that he was so full and ergo could not eat a single slice of the delicious chocolate cake.

After settling the bill and Mish becoming depressed at the Arsenal result, it was off to the Rocket we go. Much alcohol was consumed after a friendly match of pool between team Kwa-Mish and some other business people, in which the birthday boy and his best mate won quite convincingly, yay!

A few sites were observed last night:

  • Sideshow Bob can no longer have the Sideshow part of his name due to having his dreadlocks cut off, much to the disappointment of Clare and I. Still I got to dance next to him, didn't actually get round to asking him why he had decided to change.
  • The Naked Cowboy from fresher's week, was dressed as an England Rugby player, and was interested to know why I was booing him from time to time. When I explained it was because of the Welsh connections, he decided that wasn't a good enough explanation and walked off.

I was also pleasantly surprised at the variety of music played last night. Usually a Saturday night at the Rocket consists of chart, some oldies and one dance track, but we instead had a little chart, some staples (you should have seen Ryan moshing to Chesney Hawkes and the guitar solo), some rock, bit of indie and then a lot of dance and trance at the end which made for one of the best nights we've had there as everyone was pleased with the selection. I'm still disappointed that we couldn't dance on the stage last night as Kwan wanted to stage dive onto us all, being the birthday boy. Scott left at 1 but not before telling us that he had a groin strain (or he might have been talking about Ryan) and the rest of us left at 2. Then it was back to Rokeby with Shepherds Pie for Ryan (how could he eat anything else after all that Chinese!) and then sleep.

And the winner is...

Chantelle. She won Celebrity Big Brother, yet she is not a celebrity. Am I the only one who is confused by this. She really annoyed me in the house due to her pure stupidness but then again she wasn't really that bad. Guess I was just jealous about her relationship with Preston...

Much controversy has been caused by my opinions of the housemates. Personally I liked Pete even though his appearance was slightly "freaky". He wasn't ashamed of being outrageous or different from the norm and he was willing to voice his opinion on any topic. Also he played his fellow contestants off against each other and they never realised that he was trying to get a rise out of them. Yes he may have been "mean" to Jodie, but he did apologise and she was frankly more than a bit unstable if she associated his comments to being bullied at school. And he was right about Michael: he has been through a lot and needed this experience to boost his confidence. On the subject of Michael, he was definitely unstable which would account for his mood swings, but I think that the whole thing was a healing experience for him and I respect him a lot more. I think the general consensus was that George was a total idiot, well he was just expressing an opinion but I have to agree he was an idiot. I'm glad Maggot came in the top 3, he was an honest guy throughout, a bit of a peacemaker and he came across really well. Hopefully it's now managed to dispel all those myths about the Welsh. None of the other housemates are really worth mentioning, apart from of course Preston.

The Ordinary Boy frontman was probably the best person in the house, apart from the flirting with Chantelle (he came down in my estimation then). Apart from being quite cute (come on everyone agrees with me, even Vicki!) he is a nice guy who made friends with everyone and was just there to play the game. With having him in the house, it's given me a chance to educate the people of Stockton as to the wonder that is The Ordinary Boys, as I can say that yes I have both of their albums which have been listened to many a time prior to the whole BB thing. Just this morning I had to inform Mish that they aren't just Ska, but that Brassbound has Ska influences. See I'm able to impart knowledge on my flatmates. Shame I can't get hold of the special edition version of Brassbound (I had it as a ripped copy) for love nor money. I have it on order with Play, and have done for about a month now, and yet it still is out of stock. Me thinks Preston will be a slightly richer man now he's exposed his music to the nation.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this series of BB and now my television viewing is going to be thoroughly disrupted now that I don't have anything to do on a Friday night. Guess more trips to 'spoons are in order.

My desire to look like a surgical accident

I have to admit to the world that i have a secret desire to look like Pete Burns. That money in my bank account is not to live on (meagre as it is) it's to help me transform myself into the plastic filled god that is Burnsy. Those lips really do it for me.

Washing

Mr Biggs was worried about his new football top shrinking so i advised him to wash it in a synthetic wash. Well it hasn't shrunk but the letters have come off the back of it...*cue much blushing from me and a £20 note being slid under his door*

ETA: The idiot made me believe that there were previously letters on the back, when in fact there weren't. Well it's hard to remember when all the other stash that he owns has "John Snow Football Club" on the back...

So that's £25 i'll be expecting back...

Welcome to the IRC

Sitting in the library, you'd expect me to be doing work. Well i have been here since 9am and in 2 hours i have managed to complete most of my assignment. All i have to do now is the Introduction, Results section and Discussion, which are the main bits to it really! My brain feels like it will explode any minute due to all the information on memory that i'm currently rehersing from my long term memory store from way back in college. I'm also getting distracted by someone calling my name, but not directing it at me specifically, and by the people around me talking about rowing and laptops. I have half the psychology section of the library piled around my computer with scrap paper marking pages that i will probably fail to read but will note down in my references section anyway.

I keep thinking that today is wednesday and i don't know why. According to my brain i should be going to stats soon, but no, it is actually tuesday and i should be going to methods (great, more work) at 2pm. I'm also getting stared at by 2 fellow psychology undergraduates who are sitting opposite me and know that i have all the books that they want. I'm attempting to look scary so that they won't bother me for the next few hours.

Last night while i was attempting to not do any work (it's hard to resist that urge!) i managed to expand my music collection by about 3 GB through the wonder that is ourTunes. No wonder my laptop was slow this morning, i don't think it has much memory left, the poor thing.

Flat hunting

You are now reading the blog of a tennant of Flat 6, 11-15 High Street, Stockton on Tees, TS18 1UB. Contracts were signed, deposits paid and people were happy. I am now £75 poorer but glad to have finally found somewhere to live in this town. And it is a very nice place i have to say. I will be happy to let anyone visit it at any time. I don' have any photos of the actual flat but i do have one of the floor plan:

Ours is the one on the right, with 3 bedrooms next to each other, kitchen and living room on the end and the bathroom opposite bedroom 3. Rooms are yet to be assigned but apparently i am going to have bedroom 1 due to the bed being in a alcove which means i have less chance of rolling out of it...which is not something that i do a lot. Honest.

Last night i was relegated to the kitchen after a group of bio-med students invaded my room. Being Kathryn's birthday celebrations (2 weeks late) i couldn't really say anything as it was her turn to have people over. It's surprising how comfortable the kitchen table can be...

It's Thursday...

...And you all know what that means: Karaoke at Dubiners. Which would be fun, except I'm "not allowed" to sing. Well if i do, i lose a bet that is very important to me, and i wouldn't want that to happen. It's even made slightly more frustrating by the fact that i had an influx of CD's delivered today:

  • The Strokes: First Impressions of Earth
  • Arcade Fire: Funeral
  • Editors: The Back Room

So i now can add music to my itunes that i bought myself with my own money. Yes that's right, i actually buy music from time to time. Now all I'm waiting for is my special edition version of the Maximo Park album and my collection is somewhere near to completion. I need more music! So if you're ever stuck on what to buy me for a present, ask me for my Amazon wishlist, which i may just post a link to, and you can buy me anything out of the 200 odd items and i will be very very happy.

Happy Birthday Preston!

I'm already pissed off with being back at uni. I really don't know why. I've got this stupid essay to do, which is kind of half done, and then there is the whole housing situation which is just getting stupid. I mean how heartless do you have to be to not agree to live with someone who has no where else to go? Therefore based on this, i have been taking downloading music from other people's itunes for a few hours now, and my collection has vastly grown in size.

A highlight of today was watching Mr Biggs eat almost an entire batternberg cake to himself. I'm a sad child.

"I want my flu back!"

Well after being kicked out of my room yesterday by the huge numbers of bio-med students that decided to descend on Room 001, Fairbridge, I spent a bit of time talking to Scott and Ryan, sat in the kitchen but was too tempted to eat everything in my cupboard, sat in the hall and then when Mish arrived, my job as unofficial computer tech was called into being once more. I had to help Mish with his laptop, then his psp and finally I got a call from Foxey and Nat to ask me to help with laptops and msn and various other problems. After getting over to Backhouse, we decided that it would be ok for me to stay a while as a friend, not just as a useful tool, and decided to watch a couple of DVD's.

The first to be consumed was The Ninth Gate staring Johnny Depp. Twas an interesting production, and while I could guess what was going to happen next (and tried very hard not to make my knowledge public), the ending didn't leave me satisfied. Was Green Eyes really the devil? Or was she just trying to get Depp to go to hell? Was Depp really Lucifer? Finally, why did she have to have rather strange sex with him outside a burning building?

By this time it was about midnight, but when has that ever stopped us? So it was then time for some light entertainment in the form of Lee Evans. I don't normally find him funny but this time I was laughing so much I ended up crying and not being able to breathe, which is never a good combination. After almost falling asleep towards the end, it was decided that perhaps we should stop and head to bed. Cue much shock and horror to find that at 3am on a Sunday night, when many people don't have lectures on Monday morning, the rest of Backhouse were asleep! Creeping back to Fairbridge in the rain was...Fun and I did admit to feeling slightly guilty that I woke Kat up, but then again she did bang around this morning at 9 when I just wanted to sleep, so I guess she got her own back.

You can definitely tell that we're back at uni again: after falling back to sleep, the cleaners came and hoovered in the hall, and then Paul the caretaker came into his office and started joking with the rest of the cleaners which meant that it was definitely time to get up. The plan for the day is to: finish unpacking, go to developmental lecture and then sit in the library for an hour or so attempting the essay from hell. I think Home Bargins may be out of the question already as Mr Biggs went there on Saturday after arriving at 11am on the train while his parents and sister brought all his stuff in the car. When you do things like that, you expect to get charged £67 don't you?

Have a great day everybody!

Anyway off to do work amid talk of histology *brain dead*

Honey I'm Home-ish

Well i'm back in the good old north and it feels rather strange to be here. Firstly i'm on my own but then that's nothing new. Secondly it feels like i never left!

It's strange how music has the ability to move you. I found myself crying on the journey up becuase there were a string of songs played on Magic that just got to me for one stupid reason or another. Things here have changed since christmas, yet they haven't.

I think i should go to bed and maybe i'll make more sense tomorrow.

Last Day!

Well tomorrow i find myself heading back to the grim north. It's been a strange holiday this time around, and i go back with a totally different attitude. That's right people, i am a happy person again! The parental units are currently shouting at each other as to why all my stuff won't fit in the car (that would be due to them packing the stuff i'm NOT taking back with me). This time tomorrow i could be in good old 'Spoons with my Koppaberg, chilling with the people of Stockton. Which, as i've had to admit defeat on this topic, is practically Scotland.

Goodbye the people of the South, I will miss you all.

2 Days!

Well I have just been parted from the Elysenburger who i will not see now for about 10 weeks probably. The chillout evening went very well and turned into a kind of sleepover with much chatter and not much sleep. All in all i think we are both chilled slightly more than we were this time yesterday.

I have come to the conclusion that i can get away with not actually doing any work today (of course not tomorrow) and just leave it till i go back. Which is really bad of me. But i have like 3 days to do it, and i doubt very much that other more pressing things are going to happen. And lectures aren't that important either so that adds to my time available...

3 Days to go!

Well there are 3 days to go till I'm officially a Stockham student again. Yesterday was spent with Elyse and Bozz in chilly Southend. Even though Elyse moaned at everyone to wear a proper coat and wrap up warm, she suffered from the cold the most seconded by Bozz whereas I, wearing only a coat over my favorite t-shirt, was actually quite warm! Hot doughnuts and coffee were consumed and the delights of Grays and Southend were presented in all their glory.

Now work has to be done before the much anticipated chill out evening tonight, and i really can't get motivated to do it. If i just write some notes and plan my essay, do you think that will be enough to just let me write it tomorrow? I really don't want the holiday to end, I'm having so much fun at home (and it's not with the parental units).

I also think there must be something wrong with me: I'm obsessed with Shakira's new single. For some reason i sat there transfixed by TMF this morning and finding myself going "this is a really good song". Please kill me now.

Final Week

Well it's only a mere 6 days till i leave Essex for the grim north again. During that time i have lots to do, and I'm starting to panic that i won't get it all done!

Last night i went to see The Producers (finally yay!) and i have to say that it is better than the original. It was very funny, although don't ask me what parts were, it felt like i was laughing the entire time! (which i practically was...)

Well work has to be done, things have to be packed, people have to be seen and chill out time is to be had. I better get cracking, i really don't think I'm going to get it all done. And if you are reading this: I don't care about work :o).

You know you're fat when...

...Your Nan buys you weight-watchers food.

My Nan has this thing about giving me a "food parcel" at the beginning of every term so that i don't starve at uni. Elyse saw the contents of the last one and i think she'll agree that it was very funny. Well this time it's full of weight-watchers food. Last time i had hot chocolate and biscuits and rice and stuff. This time: a selection weight-watchers canned goods and dried soups. Am i really that fat? *stares at self in mirror*

ETA: She also told me not to spend all my money on alcohol...

So now i'm a fat alcoholic, please excuse me while i pass out in a vegetated state.

This is not good

What were the producers of Celebrity Big Brother thinking when they put that Chantelle in the house? She is going to have a detrimental effect on my campaign to rid the world of the Essex girl stereotype. And before you say anything, i only saw about 5 minutes of it while flicking during the break between the 2 episodes of ER of More4.

I want to go back to my bed at uni, it's more squishy than my one at home, and consequently I've woken up with a really bad back this morning. I think this condition would necessitate a trip back to bed with, once again, no work being done today.

What a shame!

Un-productive Day

It's already proved to be an un-productive day. After being woken at 7 by the joy that is my aunt, I have done precisely nothing. Well I say nothing, I have had a shower (within the last 30 minutes though) and played with my new digital camera. Cue a very trigger happy Emma with new photos of Pebbles. Those of you that have been in my room at uni will realise that the only photo I have on display is of my cat, the sad child that I am. So be prepared people for many unflattering photos to be taken of you all.

I'm currently half listening to the TMF countdown of the most downloaded songs of 2005, and one thing is puzzling me slightly: How can the Sugababes with 'Push the Button' be in the top 10? And I'd never realised before just how dirty the video for that song is...

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise to someone for maybe giving away one too many details to another person in my enthusiastic (and also sleep deprived) state. I'm sorry.

While flicking through some random blogs, i found this rather amusing quote with reference to Canada:

"America is not an elephant. For one thing, elephants never forget, whereas American's don't really know that much to begin with. Ninety per cent of them can't pick out their hometown on an unmarked map. We're bigger than they are and we're on top. If we were in prison, they'd be our bitch." Rick Mercer

Torture Devices pt 1

I think i have found a new torture device:

I've been subjected to less than 5 minutes of an amateur production of "Annie" and at first i thought it wasn't too bad until one of the orphans started putting on a really fake American accent that was just out of context of the rest of the cast. I eventually walked out of the room when Annie (who had long, curly blonde hair and looked surprisingly clean for an urchin) started singing. It wasn't so much that she couldn't sing, it was more to do with the way she was singing: half cockney and half down town Brooklyn...An interesting combination I'm sure you'll agree.

Are you right?

Apparently the only way you can be right about anything is if you own a pipe.

Do you own a pipe?

Review of 2005

It seems that everybody is doing one of these things so i'm going to try my best to sum up the year 2005 as today has proved uneventful so far.

I think we can establish that my memory is not that good in the first place, but when forced to think of things that happend last year, it seems to have gone blank. It was definitely a year full of ups and downs. This time last year i never thought i would be where i am today. Now i find myself in Durham (yes i know it's Stockton really...) doing a course that will eventually turn into something i love (hopefully!) I don't really know what to say about 2005. I lost some friends partly through my own fault, but i also made some really good ones. I think i managed to learn what's important in life and what you can forget about.

2006 holds great promise, don't waste any chance that you get this year!

Happy New Year!

It's the first post of 2006, which sounds like a strange year to me. New Years Eve was interesting to say the least. Firstly, as always, concrete plans were only established at the last minute due to Elyse's will she/won't she predicament over being ill. It was decided that we would in fact go to Andy's house for a little gathering, and promptly spent most of the evening tucked up in a shelter in the garden with a lovely fire. Soon things turned due to the many pyromaniacs present and we were trying to see what makes the biggest flame when put on top of red hot coals. The results of our findings were:

  • marshmallows crisp up on the outside but stay squishy in the middle
  • Fire has no effect on Fosters or Strongbow cans
  • Pringles cause the greatest flames with BBQ flavor being the best
  • Wrappers from Roses chocolates also cause quite a stir
We eventually became smoked out due to Nathan's eagerness to keep us warm on a freezing night. It was just at the right time too, as with only a mere 10 minutes to go till the end of the wor...I mean 2005, we gathered inside to watch "New Year Live" with Natasha Kaplinski. The firework display from the London Eye was good but went on for far to long.

After drinking of the fizzy wine, a fierce battle of boys vs. girls took place over the game of Pictionary with the superior contenders (the girls plus Andy) winning much to the disappointment of one person in particular.

The excitement of the game proved too much for some people, who promptly picked a spot to crash in and well...crashed. Two people were unable to sleep and far too comfortable to actually move and consequently spent the night laughing at the strange and not so strange things that people do in their sleep. This hilarity was halted by Elyse deciding that she "felt a bit grim" and proceeded to run, almost trip over the two people at the door and throw up. This then started a chain reaction of people waking up and coming downstairs at the wrong moment (Andy's Dad). Grumbling was heard from the door area as to the prolification of the laws of Murphy and Sod that morning, which ended in Elyse, Bozz and myself being ferried home by Andy's Mum.

Upon reaching home I promptly fell into bed after attempting to rid myself of Bozz's hiccups, and slept for a good 6 hours or so, before being dragged to Howard's house for a winter party. Good fun was had talking about spontaneous combustion and the prices of slaves in Corringham compared with Grays among other things, before the Parental Unit's decided they had had enough and dragged me home again.

All in all I think that this New Year has proved to be a lot better than last year and let's hope that it continues! May 2006 be filled with happiness for you all!
